Child in hospital bed

Galway University Hospital

"The Cubbie has been a fantastic addition to the playroom particularly for children with developmental needs. On a number of occasions children with developmental needs have come in for clinical review and often become distressed and upset in the clinical environment of the outpatient department. When brought to the Cubbie, they have settled and it has allowed for a very meaningful clinical visit without causing distress or anxiety for the child or their parents. We also have a number of children with additional needs admitted to the ward. The Cubbie has allowed them to take a break from the clinical environment and the children are much happier and less anxious as a result, particularly those children with significant sensory needs." Dr Aisling Lyons, Consultant Paediatrician SI Neurodisability Galway University Hospital

Children in Science Class

Praxis Care Ashbourne

"Praxis Care children’s respite service specialises in working with children with learning disabilities and/or a diagnosis of Autism. Many children engage in behaviours of concern. With Cubbie we have noticed a reduction in these behaviours. Some of our service users who will normally not engage with staff or activities have taken to the Cubbie and really enjoy spending time in it. Not only that it also helps some of our service users who may experience increased levels of anxiety to self-regulate and gives them the time and space they need away from the busy respite environment. We in Praxis Care think the Cubbie is a fantastic addition to our service. The staff at Cubbie have been amazing in answering all our questions and are prompt in getting back to us with any queries we may have. Thank you everyone!" Deirdre Murphy, Manager at Praxis Care Ashbourne

Classmates in the Library

St Macartan’s College

"Initially we investigated buying the Cubbie to support autistic students with sensory overload. After installation, it quickly became obvious that 'Cubbie' is not just useful for autistic people it is for useful everyone - neurotypical people as well. At some stage in our busy lives, we can all suffer from sensory overload and using Cubbie for 10/15 minutes can help us regulate and get back on track. Equally, some of us may be too calm and lack motivation, in which case Cubbie can help to alert our senses and promote positive interaction with learning. Our students really enjoy and are benefitting from using Cubbie." Fionnuala Gallagher, Autism Coordinator at St Macartan’s College

Reading Books in Library

Mayo Executive Library

"Cubbie has made Mayo libraries an inclusive and accessible space for all. Having the sensory facility means that a family or group can visit the library without fear of sensory overload. Individuals who previously felt that visiting the library could be overwhelming, now feel confident and comfortable using the services. Parents and teachers along with community groups all have expressed their delight at having access to the Cubbie. Cubbie is wheelchair accessible with a choice of seating depending on what suits the adults or child's specific needs. Footfall from local community groups and special needs schools has increased dramatically with most visiting on a weekly basis. Cubbie has been an amazing addition to 3 of our library services at Mayo County Library with approximately 42 users every week at Castlebar branch library." Emer O’Donoghue, Mayo Executive Librarian

Purple Dog Balloon

Temple Street Hospital

"As the Autism Nurse Specialist in Temple Street Hospital, I am acutely aware of the needs of children with sensory issues who attend the hospital. As a hospital we have been trying to make our environment and services more accessible and easier to navigate for individuals with sensory issues. For me, the main value of the Cubbie is its ability to adapt to the individual needs of each person with the user being able to choose lighting, visuals and music from a range to suit them. This differentiates it from a sensory room which can often be over stimulating for some. We are proud to be launching the Cubbie Sensory Hub!" Orla Heaney, Autism Nurse

Students In Uniform

Turing House School

"The feedback from the students that have used Cubbie has been absolutely excellent. Lots of students are really grateful that we’ve invested the money in actually having a Cubbie in the building. Some of the students are very positive about how it regulates them before and after school." Martin O’Sullivan, Head Teacher, Turing House School

“There’s definitely pupils that are enjoying the Cubbie. They’re really excited to go and they’re kind of getting ready and anticipating when it’s their turn to go in the Cubbie and accessing it. The teachers have been giving us some really positive feedback about how they are kind of returning to class, much more settled and regulated.” Caroline Levine, Occupational Therapist, Treehouse School

Leitrim Country Library

“Since Cubbie was introduced in Manorhamilton Library earlier this year, we have seen the very positive impact it has made on the service. It has greatly enhanced our library service in that it has made it more inclusive and accessible to our library users and the wider community in general. Cubbie is very much part of the library service offer and ensures that all visitors to the library have an enjoyable and positive experience. Pauline Brennan, Leitrim County Librarian

College Classroom

Atlantic Technological University

“ATU are delighted to have just ordered our fourth Cubbie for our campus in Donegal. The Cubbie offers a comfortable, relaxing and stress-free space for students and staff to take a few minutes away from the “hustle and bustle” of everyday life on campus. The seating options available, the variety of images and sounds make it an appealing environment for students to go to find calm, re-centre or de-stress. The Cubbie is an inclusive solution and has become an invaluable resource for many cohorts of students and staff in ATU but especially those with sensory sensitivities. Working with the team in Cubbie towards a shared vision of creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone has been fantastic. We look forward to continuing the work in fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates neurodiversity and promotes equal opportunities for all.” Debbie Molloy Student Services Manager, Disability and Learning Support Services (DLSS)
